The Katelyn James Workshop Experience. WOW! Where do I even begin? I had followed Katelyn’s blog for a while. I had came across the name Katelyn James in the comments section of BlogStomp when I was working on my own blogging. She was described as an awesome photog with very crisp and clean beautiful photos, and so I just had to see who this Katelyn James was! That was the beginning. I am so glad that I met Katelyn that day. Yes, I know, I didn’t actually meet her, but after I started following her blog I felt like I did. The more I followed her, the more I really did want to meet her and learn from her in person. Hello Workshop Experience! Dates were announced and I just had to go! I had to learn from Katelyn James! I didn’t even know where the money was coming from but I was going to meet Katelyn! As many of you know, the Workshop Experience was this past week and I am so thrilled that I went. From the moment that I walked in Katelyn’s front door, I felt like her best friend, like I had known her and Michael my whole life. Thats how comfortable they made us all feel! The workshop is the best thing I could have done for myself and my business. I know so much now. So much that I had been struggling to put together the past couple years of starting a business. Starting a business is hard and I don’t think anyone is ever prepared for how hard it is going to be. I know I wasn’t.
What I know now. I know how to do things right. I know how to organize my business and make things easier. I have learned that I don’t have to sit up sending emails in the middle of the night. Most of my clients won’t be awake to read them! Lol.
I feel refreshed in the way that I shoot and the way that I interact with my clients. The styled shoot was so much fun! It was great getting to shoot this beautiful couple and amazing decorations and detail, but getting to watch Katelyn work was such a bonus! Katelyn and I have a very similar shooting style and it was wonderful watching her shoot and interact with the couple. She made them feel so comfortable and so excited and I can only hope that my clients feel that way with me. I plan to work on the overall experience of my clients even more.
I learned a lot of great tips from Katelyn that I know will help me do things better and more efficient. Most of all, I made a lot of great friends. Friends that I will be able to second shoot weddings with. Friends that I will be able share business struggles with. Friends that I will be able to learn from, teach, and grow with. I already plan on making a trip to Chicago to visit my roomie and new best friend Sara and I am thrilled to have a bestie there now.
The biggest piece of advice that I can give, is if you have a dream, go for it! Jump out of your comfort zone and just go for it! I know that I have a lot of work ahead of me to get to where I want to be but I am ready for it and feel well prepared for it now that I went to the Katelyn James Workshop. Thanks Katelyn for opening your home and all you know to us fellow photographers. You are AMAZING!!!
Learning about hashtags. Yep, I had no clue. Never used a hashtag before. Lol. Thanks to Michael for these pictures!

A few behind the scenes of learning from Katelyn and watching her shoot 🙂 It was raining, windy and REALLY cold! My fingers almost froze to my camera, lol. This is why we were shooting on her porch. Thank goodness for big porches!
